The box office battle between Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947 and Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 is already beginning to take shape, with early advance booking trends
putting the latter ahead. While both films are still some distance away from their theatrical release, initial ticket sales suggest that Awarapan 2 is generating stronger interest among moviegoers. As per early tracking by Sacnilk, Batwara 1947 has recorded an advance booking gross of around Rs 2.74 lakh for Day 1, excluding block seats. The figure indicates a relatively slow start for the Sunny Deol starrer, which is expected to rely heavily on word of mouth and its subject matter to build momentum closer to release. In comparison, Emraan Hashmi-led Awarapan 2 has registered an advance booking gross of approximately Rs 8.7 lakh without considering block seats. This puts the film significantly ahead of Batwara 1947 at the current stage, with its advance gross already more than three times that of the Sunny Deol film. The gap becomes even more pronounced when block seats are taken into account. Awarapan 2 has currently recorded earnings of around Rs 23.66 lakh for its opening day, including block seats. Batwara 1947, meanwhile, stands at approximately Rs 13.53 lakh for Day 1 with block seats included. The early numbers suggest that Awarapan 2 is currently enjoying greater traction in the advance booking window. However, these are preliminary figures, and the final picture could change considerably as both films move closer to their release dates and advance bookings gather pace. The comparison is particularly interesting given the contrasting appeal of the two films. Awarapan 2 carries the legacy of the 2007 cult favourite Awarapan, with Emraan Hashmi returning to a franchise that has retained a loyal fan base over the years. The nostalgia surrounding the original film could be playing a role in driving early ticket sales. Batwara 1947, on the other hand, is headlined by Sunny Deol and revolves around the Partition of India, giving it a subject-driven appeal. The film will be looking to convert curiosity around its historical setting and Deol’s presence into stronger footfalls once promotions intensify. Headlined by Sunny Deol, Batwara 1947 also stars Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi and Ali Fazal in pivotal roles. The Rajkumar Santoshi directorial is produced by Aamir Khan and is based on Asghar Wajahat's drama Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai. Meanwhile, Awarapan 2 is a Vishesh Bhatt production that will also sar Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles.
