Vijay Deverakonda's Kingdom has run into trouble. The recently released movie has irked some political fractions for allegedly portraying Sri Lankan Tamils
in a negative light. Many also disapproved of the makers naming its antagonist after the Tamil deity Lord Murugan, who's revered in the region. As a result, it is facing a lot of protests and backlash in Tamil Nadu. Kingdom has been directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and released in theatres on July 31. Kindgom faces protests in Tamil Nadu
On August 6, reports of protests against Kingdom came in after it was noted that its certain content has left a section of the audience furious. Major opposition came from Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) members, who called out the makers for hurting Tamil sentiments. They claimed that Kingdom shows Sri Lankan Tamils as "villains". It further called it insensitive and stated that it maligned the identity and history of the Tamilians. NTK is now going around the state to stage protests outside various theatres demanding a ban on Kingdom's screening in Tamil Nadu. At some venues, protests were also reported to turn violent, forcing the police to intervene.
