from President Droupadi Murmu for his performance in Chandu Champion, directed by Kabir Khan. After his name was announced, Kartik went up to the stage to collect his Best Actor honour from the President herself. The 35-year-old shared the award with Malayalam superstar Mammootty, who won it for his superlative performance in Bramayugam.
Kartik Aaryan Collects His First National Film Award
Kartik Aaryan was announced as one of the winners of the 72nd National Film Awards earlier this year for his 2024 release Chandu Champion. On Tuesday, September 22, Kartik received the Rajat Kamal honour from President Droupadi Murmu as his parents cheered him on. Previously, Kartik had also won the Best Actor Filmfare trophy for his intense performance in the Kabir Khan-directed sports drama. Based on the life of Murlikant Petkar, an Indian Army veteran and Paralympic gold medallist, the film follows his journey from a young wrestler to a soldier, and later a champion swimmer.
Kartik had arrived in Gujarat a day earlier and spoke about winning the prestigious award for the first time. He said, "I have received my first National Award for Chandu Champion. I am truly, incredibly happy, my entire family is overjoyed, and our whole team is thrilled. Reflecting on the journey we began with Chandu Champion and the way this film inspires so many people, especially regarding the Paralympians, I can only express my gratitude to the jury and the entire audience across India for choosing us."
The 72nd National Film Awards 2024 ceremony took place at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat, close to the iconic Statue of Unity. The ceremony marks a significant moment for the prestigious awards as it was hosted outside New Delhi for the first time.
About Kartik Aaryan's Bollywood Journey
Kartik Aaryan has come a long way in Bollywood since making his acting debut with Pyaar Ka Punchnama in 2011. He became popular with his monologues in the film. He went on to star in films such as Akaash Vani, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, with the latter becoming a major box office success.
Kartik later featured in films including Luka Chuppi, Pati Patni Aur Woh, and Love Aaj Kal 2. His career reached another important phase with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which became one of the biggest hits of 2022 and established him as a leading star. He also appeared in Satyaprem Ki Katha and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. However, Chandu Champion gave him an opportunity to explore a different side as an actor.
