The announcement has gained interest from netizens, given MS Subbulakshmi’s unparalleled legacy and contribution to Indian music. Rashmika Mandanna To Portray M S Subbulakshmi
The makers have officially unveiled Rashmika Mandanna as M S Subbulakshmi, putting an end to months of speculation surrounding the casting of the prestigious role. The actress had reportedly undergone a screen test before being finalised for the part.
M S – A Legacy on Screen will be officially launched in Chennai on September 16, coinciding with the 110th birth anniversary of M S Subbulakshmi. Kamal Haasan is set to attend the event as the chief guest. The Indian Choral Ensemble will also pay tribute to the legendary vocalist by performing some of her iconic songs during the launch. Gowtam Tinnanuri is directing the film, while Anirudh Ravichander has been roped in as the music composer. Allu Aravind, Bunny Vasu and Rockline Venkatesh are producing the ambitious project.
Portraying MS Subbulakshmi is expected to be one of Rashmika Mandanna’s most challenging roles yet. The legendary vocalist, who was honoured with the Bharat Ratna, remains one of India’s most celebrated musical icons. She also had a connection with cinema, appearing in films such as Sevasadanam, Sakuntalai, Savithiri and the acclaimed Meera. Before Rashmika Mandanna was confirmed, Sai Pallavi was reportedly considered for the role but is said to have opted out due to date clashes. Rukmini Vasanth was later linked to the project.

Meanwhile, Rashmika Mandanna will next be seen in Rawindra Pulle’s action thriller Mysaa, which is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 27. The actress plays a tribal Gond woman in the film and underwent intensive stunt and combat training in Bangkok. She will also star alongside Vijay Deverakonda in the upcoming pan-India action drama Ranabaali. Rahul Sankrityan’s Ranabaali, is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16, 2026. The film was initially slated to hit screens on September 11 but was later postponed.
