What is the story about?
Rohit Shetty started shooting for Golmaal 5 with Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and the ensemble cast in Mumbai amid tight security. The director-producer received
a death threat from jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang in January. He wrote to Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti to provide enhanced security to him along with the cast and crew of the film. According to the latest development, it hasn’t been sanctioned to him. Despite this, Shetty has used ‘Police’ on his private cars and has fitted police-style lights without the necessary permission.
Why Rohit Shetty lands in legal trouble?
As per Mid-Day's report, Rohit customised ‘at least two of his private cars’, both sports utility vehicles (SUVs). According to Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, both these acts are illegal and subject to punishment. Nobody apart from those who belong to the police department and law enforcement is permitted to use these.What officers say?
A senior traffic officer told Mid-Day that permission to use a 'Police' sticker and lights is granted only to officers. After verifying, it was confirmed that the SUVs have been registered in Shetty’s name. A senior RTO official said, “Under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, as amended in 2019, does not allow a ‘Police’ sticker, logo, or board on a private vehicle, under Section 177.
Rohit Shetty house attack
On January 31, Rohit’s Juhu apartment was attacked by unknown gunmen. Lawrence’s gang members claimed responsibility for the firing incident. Post that, Rohit’s residence was sealed by the cops, and security was tightened.The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, known for threatening Bollywood superstar Salman Khan for his alleged involvement in the Black Buck Poaching case during Hum Saath Saath Hai’s shoot in Rajasthan, claimed responsibility for the attack on Rohit’s building. In a viral Facebook post, Bishnoi’s gang members Shubham Lonkar, Arju Bishnoi and Hari Boxer Hasan Sambhu claimed responsibility for the firing at the Shetty Tower on January 31. In a Facebook post, they claimed to have warned Rohit against interfering in their work, but when he ‘did not understand’ they had to give a ‘small trailer’ to him. They also threatened him if he still ‘fails to understand’ the message, the next shot will not be fired outside the house, but inside the bedroom.
Rohit and his legal team are yet to react to using 'Police' sticker and lights on the cars.
