According to a recent report by Variety, the sci-fi sequel has yet to make a profit, despite earning around $1.45 billion worldwide. Addressing the speculation at the Saturn Awards on March 9, Cameron said that Avatar 4 is “very likely” to happen. Earlier, James Cameron spoke to Taiwanese outlet TVBS News, and the 71-year-old director admitted the film industry is currently going through a tough phase. He pointed out that Avatar: Fire And Ash was extremely expensive to produce, and future films will depend on strong box-office performance. He added that the team may also need to find ways to make upcoming Avatar movies at a lower cost.
This becomes even more relevant considering Fire and Ash earned about $870 million less than The Way of Water.
