Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran are set for a serious face-off in Meghna Gulzar's upcoming Daayra. The gritty crime thriller is inspired by
true events and is backed by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios. While Kareena plays DCP Ajooni Kohli, Sukumaran plays DCP Raman Kumar, standing on opposite ends of the spectrum in an entangled investigation. Infact, Daayra marks the first time that the two actors will collaborate with the director. The film is expected to be an engaging story of justice, power and the complex workings of the legal system. The makers on September 15 shared a brand new promo, ahead of its theatrical release this Friday. Daayra is touted to be an investigative crime drama. Both Kareena and Prithviraj are members of the same police force, but they find themselves on different sides of a probe that tests their professional duties and personal convictions. This places them in a clash of ideologies within the existing legal system.
Daayra's new promo makes us curious
The new promo builds on more of that. It uses intriguing snippets from the movie that strongly establish DCP Ajooni and DCP Raman working on the same case. Kareena also sums up the plight of women victims and how her character is always judged in a heart-wrenching monologue.
The new promo comes after a series of character posters and the film's trailer, which released recently, receiving thumping response, taking the stakes high for its release.
Kareena Kapoor vs Prithviraj Sukumaran
In what we've seen so far, Daayra presents Kareena and Prithviraj as two driven police officers caught in a conflict that is more than just a routine investigation. Kareena's Ajooni is composed, fierce and unyielding. Her first impression is that of a police officer who is not easily intimidated and is ready to face tough situations head-on.
Prithviraj's Raman, on the other hand, is equally intense. The plot revolves around Raman and Ajooni, and the main tension of the film is the difference between them as two officers who seem to be working in the same system, but are looking at justice from different perspectives.
Story of justice and delivery
While the makers have kept the details of the case under wraps, Daayra appears to explore the difference between justice in principle and justice as it is delivered in reality. The film raises questions about institutional responsibility and the professional ethics and decisions officers must make when the system itself becomes complicated. Rather than providing quick fixes, the story is supposed to inspire viewers to look at different sides of the same conflict.
Junglee Pictures welcomes back Meghna Gulzar
This is Meghna Gulzar's comeback to Junglee Pictures after her critically acclaimed films Talvar and Raazi. She has also scripted Daayra, along with Sima Agarwal and Yash Keswani. Cinematography is by Saurabh Goswami, and editing is by Charu Shree Roy.
Daayra releases in theatres on September 18.
