At a time when beauty transformations are a massive trend in the film fraternity, Vaani Kapoor chooses to stay true to her craft and aims to connect with
the audience through her roles. In an exclusive interview with Zoom, the Mandala Murders actress said looking attractive is a need to be a part of the visual medium, but working on talent is mandatory. Vaani believes that she isn’t ‘conventionally pretty’, however, that doesn’t bog her down.
Vaani Kapoor on vanity
Vaani told us, “As an audience, I watch a lot of films and series. I look for a connect. I don't look for how beautiful the face is for me to go and watch something. For me, it's the X factor. It's screen presence. It's the way an actor can compel you to bring you into their world.”

'Not conventionally pretty'
She further added, “I don't think I'm very conventionally pretty or anything. I think I'm decently attractive, but I don't think I'm one of the very pretty faces or the beautiful faces. That doesn't bog me down. I work on my talent and my abilities to create a better connect with the audience.”
Vaani shared, “It depends on the way your role is designed. If the film needs a pretty face, then casting will be done accordingly. There are also roles which don't necessarily demand a very attractive or a glamourous face. I have tried to mould myself as per the character and the role.”
'Visual medium, but be authentic to characters'
The actress then explained, “Yes, it is a visual medium. I'm not denying that a lot of people come for the visual appeal. They want to see everything pretty and lovely, but it is the story and how our characters are written, directed and presented that makes you beautiful. You don't have to be the most beautiful, but you will appear beautiful just by your way of being in front of the camera and being authentic to the character that you're portraying.”
Vaani’s latest project, Mandala Murders, is currently streaming on Netflix. The series is set in an enigmatic town called Charandaspur. The show is about two detectives. They unravel a series of ritualistic killings tied to a secret society that has lurked in the shadows for centuries.
