Asha Bhosle was laid to rest amid tears and heavy hearts, as the nation bid goodbye to the legendary singer, who was a national gem, and a prolific name
in cementing the playback music of Indian cinema. Asha Tai, as loved ones fondly called her, was 92 when she succumbed to multiple organ failure and died on April 12. She leaves behind a body of work over a decade of eight decades, including an estimated 12,000+ recordings across more than 20 languages, earning her a 2011 Guinness World Record. Words would fall short to describe what she meant to the past, present, and future generations of music lovers.
National bid Asha Bhosle tearful goodbye
On April 13, her funeral was held amid state hinours, after the entire entertainment fraternity paid last respects to her mortal remains at her residence, Casa Grande, in Lower Parel. Her last rites took place at Shivaji Park, and many Bollywood celebrities, sports personalities, and politicians came for the antim darshan.
Asha Bhosle was rushed to Breach Candy Hospital on April 11 due to chest congestion. Unfortunately, the singer died on April 12. Her son Anand Bhosle confirmed her demise with the media.
When she won Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award
Asha Bhosle won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Filmfare Awards 2001 after completing 52 years in the industry at that time. In her speech, Asha ji had said that she was scared to receive the honour after learning about it. In her speech, the singer paid tribute to her late father, Deenanath Mangeshkar, her gurus, her mother, and the people.
About Asha Bhosle's life
Born in 1933, Asha Bhosle went on to make a mark in playback singing for her incredible versatility. Her repertoire included Hindi film music, pop, ghazals, bhajans, classical, and folk songs. Some of her most loved and evergreen tracks include Dil Cheez Kya Hai, Piya Tu Ab To Aaja, Mera Kuchh Saaman, and Chura Liya Hai Tumne.
Asha ji had three children from her first marriage to Ganpatrao Bhosle. She later married music maestro RD Burman to give the industry a power couple.
