this year, several names were thrown around for the female lead. Reports suggest that the Bollywood star Anushka Sharma was the top choice to star opposite Allu Arjun. But has the actress decided to make an acting comeback this year? A new report reveals that Anushka has yet to sign a new project. Meanwhile, the Pushpa actor Allu Arjun is currently busy with A6xA22 with Atlee.
Anushka Sharma to comeback to big screen with #AA23?
Recent reports seemed to indicate that Anushka Sharma was in talks for #AA23, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. A source told Variety India that the actress is not booking a return to the big screen just yet. Therefore, the reports of her coming aboard the South project are untrue. Anushka has not signed any new project nor has she been approached to act opposite Allu Arjun. Had the actress been confirmed for the role, it would have been her first Telugu project.
Since 2024, the actress has been on a self-imposed sabbatical from the world of films. Anushka's home base is now London, England where she resides with her husband, cricketer Virat Kohli and two children, Vamika and Akaay. Her last theatrical release was Aanand L. Rai's Zero in 2018 with co-stars Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif. However, her last completed film project Chakda Xpress, directed by Prosit Roy, is yet to see the light of day. It was originally due to release on Netflix but remains in limbo due to creative differences with the streamer.

Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, #AA23 is said to be a large-scale action entertainer. Written by Chandhru Anbazhagan, Lokesh and Rathna Kumar, the Telugu film will feature music by Anirudh Ravichander.
Allu Arjun's upcoming projects
Besides the new project with Lokesh, Allu Arjun is teaming up with Atlee for the pan-India sci-fi film A6xA22. Deepika Padukone is set to star opposite Allu Arjun in the upcoming film. Some reports even suggested that Anushka Sharma could be a part of this film as well. Other rumoured names being thrown in the hat for additional roles on A6xA22 included Mrunal Thakur, Rashmika Mandanna and Janhvi Kapoor.
Allu Arjun is also expected to return for the third film in the Pushpa franchise. Directed by Sukumar, he and co-star Rashmika would likely return for the second sequel to the blockbuster Telugu film Pushpa: The Rise (2021).
