Actress Mouni Roy recently played a spy in the web series Salakaar, which is directed by Khuda Haafiz filmmaker Faruk Kabir. The series is available to
stream on JioHotstar in six languages – Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam, Bengali and Kannada. Known for taking on strong and impactful roles, Mouni has won praise in the past for her performance as the villain Junoon in Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva. However, despite that success, the actress has now opened up about the ongoing challenges she faces as an 'outsider' in the entertainment industry. In a recent interview with Zoom, she shed light on the limited opportunities that come her way and why the journey continues to be tough, even after high-profile projects. Her honest views shed light on the struggles many non-industry actors face when trying to build a career in films and OTT platforms.
Mouni Roy on journey as an 'outsider'
In a recent exclusive interview with Zoom, Mouni shared how difficult it still is for outsiders like her to get meaningful roles in the industry. She told Zoom, “You're as big as your last project. It's very difficult to get roles here as an outsider. It's a constant struggle all the time. So I choose from whatever little offer I get and I try to choose well.”Mouni, who received a lot of love for playing the villain Junoon in Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, admitted that she expected better offers after the blockbuster. “Post Brahmastra, there should have been more job opportunities for me, since my performance was received so well but that didn’t happen,” she said.
Talking about how outsider actors often get overlooked despite having talent, Mouni added, “All the talented actors from outside should be given the same opportunities to audition for good parts, and their names should be taken in important rooms. I have never shied away from auditioning.”
