What is the story about?
Ranbir Kapoor dropped a major update on two of his mega-budget movies, Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana with Sai Pallavi, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War,
also starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. The 43-year-old, who has not had a release ever since his last hit Animal (2023) by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, revealed some changes with regard to the release of his two upcoming films, which have been under production for over a year now. While Ranbir plays Lord Ram in Ramayana, Love & War is rumoured to be inspired by Raj Kapoor's 1964 classic Sangam. However, the new schedule of the two movies seems to have flipped the 2026 calendar for him, and is expected to impact even other releases later this year.
Ramayana to release before Love & War
As per the previous plan, Love & War was initially set for an August 2026 release. But recently, rumours surfaced that the romantic period drama has been postponed. Ranbir confirmed it himself that Love & War has indeed been moved to either later this year or early next year, making way for Ramayana to hit the theatres first.
Ranbir Kapoor reveals change of release schedule
Confirming the plan, Ranbir said in an Instagram live on February 14 that his next release is Ramayana Part 1 on Diwali in October 2026. He also stated that Love & War will now aim for a December 2026 or early 2027 release, if all goes well, without revealing its new release date. The actor connected the entire change of plan with the long schedules and shooting time his projects take due to their scale and vision, unlike other actors who finish a film within a few months.
Brahmastra 2, Animal Park updates
Ranbir shared that he will begin work on Brahmastra 2 soon. Even Animal Park is set to go on floors mid-next year. He even said he would be happy to return with a sequel to Rockstar if director Imtiaz Ali could think of a story ahead for his character, Jordan.
About Love & War delay
In January 2026, rumours about Love & War getting delayed started doing the rounds. Pinkvilla reported that "a significant portion of the shoot is still pending" due to the extensive VFX work work and editing of aerial action sequences. Though sources close to the film rejected the claim, calling it much on track, Ranbir's opening up about the project has now confirmed the apparent rumour.
