Sonu Nigam calls it "good fortune" that his latest hit Pardesiya from Param Sundari came to him. The music maestro, who probably gets the best tracks in
an album and he ends up adding his own shine to it, often turns into the flavour of the season. And Pardesiya, featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor is no different. Composed by Sachin–Jigar and written by Amitabh Bhattacharya, Pardesiya has become the current fan-favourite love ballad, and Sonu's voice has taken the vibe a notch higher. Sonu Nigam open up about Pardesiya
In an exclusive chat with Zoom, Sonu agrees that the song's beautiful composition is what pushed him to do it. "It's a matter of good fortune that Pardesiya came to me. I've been working hard on my craft and that is why the universe is opening up beautiful opportunities for me," he said.
Sonu delivered some of the biggest musical hits in the last one year, including his songs like Mere Dholna in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Papa Meri Jaan in Animal. "Now it's Pardesiya that's getting so much love," he added.
Sonu shared that he has always admired Sachin-Jigar's work. "Though I've worked less with them, but whatever I've done has left a mark, be it any language. So when they sent me the song, I realised this is a special one."
Sachin-Jigar's magical composition
The maverick singer further lauded the composers, who he said, love him from his early age. According to Sonu, "The whole atmosphere while working was very beautiful and respectful. Sachin-Jigar are lovely souls with a great camaraderie. I saw very positive interactions between two partners. There was no conflict. And they love me from an early age, I would say from their childhood, when they were assistants to Rajesh Roshan ji many years back. So the song has shaped really well."
Only the best comes to Sonu Nigam
Sonu has had a prolific body of work that's bound to inspire generations of forthcoming singers and musicians. After being active for over three decades, contributing hundreds of iconic songs, his journey can be written in gold. While he seemingly prefers quality over quantity at this juncture of career, the 52-year-old explained what governs his choices between actors, banners and composers while picking a song today.
"I do not sing for just anybody or anyone," Sonu claims. "But because of my bonding with so many companies, artists and composers, it's sometimes difficult to say no to them, even when you see the project might not be of the highest order," he added.
Sonu however feels he's lucky that good offers come to him and hence he rarely has to make a choice. "A good song is a good song, and thankfully people come to me when they have something good in hands and they value my contribution. I don't get average songs anyways, so I don't have to make an effort to choose too much. Good songs come my way."
