In a big relief for Bollywood star Ranveer Singh, the Karnataka High Court on Saturday (April 25) cancelled the FIR filed against him in the Kantara mockery
case. Singh, known for his antics and unabashedly being himself in public, reenacted Rishab Shetty’s iconic climax scene at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival in Goa last year. While the Kannada filmmaker, who was seated in the audience, awkwardly smiled and ignored the alleged mockery, an FIR was later filed against him. Many took umbrage at him referring to the Chavundi Daiva (Goddess) as a "female ghost" and allegedly mocking the film deeply rooted in religion.
Case Against Ranveer Singh For 'Mocking' Kantara QUASHED
The Karnataka High Court on Saturday (April 25) cancelled the FIR filed against Ranveer.
The case was dismissed by the court after the Dhurandhar: The Revenge actor offered an unconditional apology. He also said that he would personally visit the Chamundeshwari temple in Mysuru to seek forgiveness. His lawyer, Sajan Poovayya, submitted an apology affidavit.
Notably, Ranveer was not present at the hearing. According to his counsel, the actor is facing security concerns amid the massive success of his latest film Dhurandhar 2, which is restricting his movement. Because of this, no fixed date for the temple visit was mentioned
The court disposed of his petition but noted that his actions had hurt public sentiments. It also orally directed that the actor should visit the temple within four weeks.
Ranveer Singh's Statement On Kantara Mimicry Controversy
Ranveer has not made an official statement after the latest update.
Last year, after facing severe backlash online, he had shared an apology note for hurting people’s sentiments. He said that his intention was only to highlight Rishab's amazing performance in the film. He added that, as an actor, he understood how much effort it would have taken to perform that scene, and he had great admiration for it. He further said that he has always respected every culture, tradition, and belief in the country. He also sincerely apologised if he had hurt anyone’s sentiments.
Ranveer Singh vs Don 3 Makers - Dispute Solved
The above update comes just days after reports that Ranveer and Excel Entertainment have finally settled their dispute over Don 3. The actor, who was accused of walking out of the project midway and causing significant losses, has agreed to return the signing amount.
Reports also suggest that he has offered Farhan Akhtar a stake in his upcoming film Pralay.
