for a lot of celebrities Kareena Kapoor, Kartik Aaryan, Sara Ali Khan, Ananya Panday, Tiger Shroff, Disha Patani and others. After its popularity, Shilpa Shetty opened another branch of Bastian, called Bastian – At The Top, in Dadar, Mumbai. Now, it has become celebs’ favourite. Shilpa Shetty announced Bastian Bandra’s closure yesterday (September 2) on Instagram with a long note. While some people have left heartbroken, others are curious to know why the famous restaurant is shutting down. Let’s find out.
Why did Shilpa Shetty shut down Bastian Bandra?
According to IANS, Mumbai businessman Deepak Kothari had filed a fraud case against Shilpa Shetty and her husband, Raj Kundra, linked to their now-defunct company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. The businessman claimed that the couple defrauded him of over Rs 60 crore in a loan-cum-investment deal between 2015 and 2023.
Deepak Kothari, who is the director of Lotus Capital Financial Services, claimed that Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra allegedly took money for business expansion, but they ended up using it for their personal expenses. After the couple was booked in the cheating case, their lawyer, Prashant Patil, refuted the claims made by Kothari. The lawyer stated that the matter was already adjudicated by the NCLT Mumbai.
In an official statement given to the Times of India, Prashant Patil said, “My clients have been informed by certain segments of electronic and print media that an alleged case has been registered against them at the Economic Offences Wing, Mumbai. At the outset, my clients deny all the allegations, which are purely civil in nature and have already been adjudicated by the NCLT Mumbai on 04/10/2024.” Now, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) is doing the investigation after taking a handover.

It looks like the Bastian Bandra owners – Shilpa and Raj – took this decision owing to an ongoing fraud case. However, the official reason behind Bastian Bandra’s closing is still unknown.

A venue that gave us countless memories, unforgettable nights, and moments that shaped the city's nightlife now takes its final bow.”
