What is the story about?
Matthew Perry's personal items, including the script of FRIENDS, are set to be auctioned to support a cause that is deeply connected to his life and to which
he tirelessly dedicated himself. His enduring legacy and the meaningful piece of television history are now being honoured through a charity auction that combines nostalgia with purpose. In a moving tribute, Perry's estate has partnered with Heritage Auctions to offer a curated selection of his personal belongings and sitcom memorabilia. The event serves a dual purpose of providing fans with a tangible connection to the beloved actor while also funding the mission that defined his later years.
Matthew Perry Foundation auction
The auction, in partnership with the Matthew Perry Foundation, aims at funding addiction recovery initiatives and increase access to treatment. It's a reflection of Perry's decades-long effort to fight against the stigma around substance abuse and improve support systems for those who need it. Other beneficiaries include programs such as the addiction medicine fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and recovery-oriented programs such as Healing Appalachia.
FRIENDS episodes up for auction
The auction features items that will be of special interest to FRIENDS fans. The most popular item is a collection of 26 original scripts from the show. These include fan favourite episodes like 'The One With Ross's Tan', 'The One Where Joey Speaks French' and the legendary two-part finale, 'The Last One'. Some of the scripts are even signed by cast members Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer, and are thus highly collectible items.
Other memorabilia is more personal to Matthew Perry. A photo album called The One With the Last Supper, with a handwritten note, provides a behind-the-scenes look. And there is a replica of the instantly recognisable yellow peephole frame from Monica's apartment door, an enduring symbol of the sitcom. Fans can also bid on Perry's Screen Actors Guild Award, which was awarded in 1995 for ensemble performance in a comedy series.
Other items going under hammer
Outside of FRIENDS, the auction will include a range of personal items, from artwork by acclaimed artists such as Banksy to a custom Batman-themed ping-pong table and a The Dark Knight Rises-inspired watch. Some items are priced affordably, opening up participation to a wide range of fans and collectors.
It's more than just a memorabilia sale. It’s a tribute and ensures that Matthew Perry's legacy will continue to echo, not only through laughter, but through real change by bringing fans closer to beloved moments in television history.
