Ranbir Kapoor Explains Why He Prefers 'Indian Cinema' Over 'Bollywood'
During a chat with ITV, Ranbir Kapoor was asked why he doesn't prefer the umbrella term 'Bollywood.' The Ramayana actor replied, "I think it's just a term used as a derivative of Hollywood. Because it was Bombay at that time, so it became Bollywood, and the Telugu industry became Tollywood, and they had all these different-sounding names."
He further said that he wanted to represent Indian cinema. RK also pointed out that India had different cultures, languages and states, but art brought people together. He added that good stories rooted in one's culture and traditions could connect with audiences across the world. Citing films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Korean films and Life Is Beautiful, he said that the aim was to tell authentic stories rather than blindly trying to appeal to a global audience. "You are still trying to be really authentic in your storytelling and culture," added the actor.
Ranbir is currently in London with co-stars Sai Pallavi and Yash.
