Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is making headlines even before its theatrical release, and this time the buzz is around its Tamil Nadu distribution rights. The
Nelson Dilipkumar directorial is reportedly being considered for an outright theatrical rights sale in the state for around Rs 125 crore. According to a latest report, Sun Pictures is exploring a change from its usual distribution arrangement for the sequel. The reported move could make Jailer 2 one of the biggest Tamil theatrical rights deals in recent times. However, the Rs 125 crore deal is not confirmed yet and is still reportedly under discussion.
Jailer 2 Makers Exploring Mega Deal
According to Valai Pechu, Sun Pictures is considering selling the Tamil Nadu theatrical rights of Jailer 2 for around Rs 125 crore. This would be different from the arrangement the production house has generally followed for some of its major Tamil releases.
The reported plan could also mark a change from Sun Pictures’ association with Red Giant Movies for distributing its films in Tamil Nadu. The studio has previously routed titles such as Beast, Annaatthe, and Jailer through the distribution house. An outright sale would instead give the buyer the theatrical rights for a fixed amount.
In a regular percentage-based distribution model, the distributor and producer can share the financial risk and returns depending on the film's theatrical performance. With an outright deal, Sun Pictures would secure a fixed amount from the sale, while the distributor acquiring the rights would take on the box office risk as well as the potential upside.
The reported Rs 125 crore asking price comes at a time when Jailer 2 is already seeing strong interest from distributors in different markets. Earlier reports said that Sree Gokulam Movies had acquired rights covering Kerala, Karnataka, and North India for Rs 60 crore.
However, it is important to note that the Tamil Nadu deal has not been officially announced.
Jailer 2 Release Date, Cast, Plot
Jailer 2 is scheduled to arrive in theatres on October 15, 2026. Rajinikanth returns as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian in the sequel, with Nelson Dilipkumar directing the film. The official cast also includes Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and S J Suryah. The film brings back Anirudh Ravichander as music director.
Several actors from the first Jailer have also been linked to the sequel. Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Vinayakan are among the returning cast members, whereas Hrithik Roshan will be making a cameo.
