What is the story about?
Priyadarshan has successfully made yet another money-spinning entertainer with Akshay Kumar. Titled Bhooth Bangla, it is a horror comedy set in a fictional
ghostly town of Mangalpur. When the audience thought that they couldn’t make a film as successful as Bhool Bhulaiyaa, the director-actor duo proved them wrong at the box office. Bhooth Bangla is a standalone film with new characters and a different story. Amid its success, rumours swirl around the possibility of its sequel. While Priyadarshan and Akshay are yet to announce the horror comedy’s second part, the director gave several clues in the film. *Spoilers ahead*
Will Bhooth Bangla get a sequel?
Bhooth Bangla follows the story of an NRI, Arjun Acharya (Akshay), who returns to his ancestral roots to get his sister Meera (Mithila Palkar) married at their grandfather’s property. However, their father, Dr Vasudev Acharya (Jisshu Sengupta) is unaware of this plan. When he learns about Arjun and Meera’s visit to Mangalpur, he warns them to drop the idea of making their ancestral property the venue for the wedding. Throughout the film, Priyadarshan weaves hints at Bhooth Bangla’s sequel. Besides the open ending, various plot points serve as clues if looked at carefully. Here are some theories that could validate the chances of Bhooth Bangla’s second part.
Theories that hint at Bhooth Bangla sequel
After Vasudev leaves for his conferences, Meera receives her late grandfather Dushund Maharaj's (Rajesh Sharma) property papers. She is declared as the heir of the multicrore mansion. Arjun, a miser, decides to get Meera married at their heritage home. He reaches Mangalpur and hires a wedding planner, Jagdish Kewalramani (Paresh Rawal). Jaggu brings his nephew Balli (Rajpal Yadav) for assistance. Mangalpur’s resident demon, Vadhusur, targets him first. Towards the end of the film, Balli is shown to be possessed by evil. It is not clear whether Vadhusur’s end has cured him. He goes missing. It can be assumed that Balli is the carrier of Vadhusur after Arjun rescues his sister from the custody of his kin.
Vadhusur, the demon, accepts Arjun’s father, Madhav, as his disciple. Though he has transformed into a bat-like creature, this curse might have been transferred to Arjun, who could potentially become the next Vadhusur. Many years later, Arjun is still in North India, telling stories of the demon to train travellers. The question is, why did he stay back even after his sister’s wedding? While Priyadarshan answers by clarifying that Arjun’s purpose is to know more about his grandfather’s past, there could be more mysteries hidden behind closed doors.
Bhooth Bangla box office
In just three days, Bhooth Bangla has earned Rs 95 crore worldwide. It is expected to grow further as there are no major releases till May 1. This could be a cue for the makers to sanction the horror comedy’s sequel.
