After back-to-back comedies like Bhooth Bangla and Welcome To The Jungle, Akshay Kumar is all set to unleash his dark side with Haiwaan. For the first
time ever, Khiladi Kumar will be seen playing an out-and-out evil character and he’s super pumped about the project. Also starring Saif Ali Khan in the lead, the movie marks his reunion with acclaimed director Priyadarshan. Its teaser is set to drop today, and fans are excited to see what the much-celebrated duo has in store. Ahead of the launch, the actor opened up about playing a psychopath on screen, calling the film one of his most challenging projects so far.
Akshay Kumar Talks About Haiwaan Character
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Akshay Kumar said, "As the title goes, I am playing Haiwaan and my character has no grey shades, he’s out and out evil. I always wanted to play a psycho on-screen."
He added that he had always wanted to play a psycho on screen and, after experimenting with comedy, horror, action and drama in his recent films, this is his first time portraying evil in its truest sense. "I like to constantly challenge myself and Haiwaan is that challenge for me," said the superstar.
Meanwhile, director Priyadarshan revealed that Akshay’s look in Haiwaan was inspired by one of his casual outfits. While shooting for Bhooth Bangla, he liked the actor's beanie look. He said that while narrating the story of Haiwaan, he had asked Akshay who he thought could play the character, expecting him to suggest another actor. However, he was surprised when Akki asked if he could take on the role himself.
The filmmaker added that this made him feel he would get to present a different side of Akshay and explore his full potential.

Most recently, the duo reunited for Bhooth Bangla, which also starred Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Wamiqa Gabbi, Asrani, Rajpal Yadav and others. The horror-comedy marked their reunion after several years and generated buzz for bringing back their much-loved combination.
With Haiwaan, they are now exploring a completely different territory, with Akshay taking on a dark and sinister role.
Apart from these, they have worked together in Hera Pheri (2000), Garam Masala (2005), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) and other cult classics.
