Filmmakers have laid out a proper plan to entertain the audience this Independence Day with a variety of movies. As the festive season begins in India with Raksha Bandhan in August, families have a lot to choose from in terms of cinema. Rajkummar Rao’s Prahaar, based on lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, begins the new month. The biggest clash of the month is between Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947 and Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2. Yash’s Toxic, which is originally a Kannada film, will also release in Hindi on August 26. Not to forget, Shraddha Kapoor returns to the big screen after Stree 2 with Eetha on August 28. Prahaar - The Ujjwal Nikam Story
Starring Rajkummar Rao, Wamiqa Gabbi, Sikander Kher, and Jaideep Ahlawat, Prahaar – The Ujjwal Nikam Story is based on celebrated public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, who led the prosecution against Ajmal Kasab in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks (26/11) trial. The film, directed by Avinash Arun, releases in theatres on August 7.
Awarapan 2
Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 stars Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani. The film marks Hashmi's return as the famous character Shivam. The romantic drama releases in theatres on August 14. The title song of the film, Yeh Awarapan, has been sung by Arijit Singh and composed by Amaal Mallik.
Batwara 1947
Batwara 1947 is headlined by Shabana Azmi, Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film is produced by Aamir Khan. Batwara 1947 is based on the Urdu play, Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya O Jamyai Nai. The film releases in theatres on August 14. The film follows the story of an elderly Hindu woman who couldn’t make it to the other side during the Partition. A Muslim refugee family wants her to move out of her mansion. However, she remains firm and doesn’t leave. Over time, the family bonds with the elderly lady.
Eetha
Shraddha Kapoor is set to return to the big screen after two years. After Stree 2, she headlines Laxman Utekar’s Eetha, co-starring Randeep Hooda, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub and Anant V Joshi. The film is a biopic of Maharashtra’s Tamasha Samradni, Vithabai Narayangaonkar. She played an important role in shaping the folk dance’s legacy. Born in a family of artists in Pandharpur, Bhau-Bapu Mang Narayangaonkar was the family troupe run by her father and uncle.
Khosla Ka Ghosla 2
Khosla Ka Ghosla, a cult classic, is now getting its sequel. Directed by Prashant Bhagia, the dark comedy is releasing in theatres on August 28. Khosla Ka Ghosla 2 stars Anupam Kher and Ravi Kishan. The film will clash with Shraddha Kapoor’s much-awaited biopic, Eetha.
