Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, OM features Dhanush alongside Malayalam superstar Mammootty, Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela. The director previously helmed Amaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan, which received critical acclaim and performed well at the box office.
Although the makers have not officially revealed the film's complete storyline, discussions have speculated that it could get inspiration from real-life incidents involving Tamil workers killed in connection with red sandalwood smuggling in Andhra Pradesh. However, these claims remain unconfirmed, and the plot details have yet to be officially disclosed.
New music sensation Sai Abhyankkar has scored the music for the film, with its first two singles already getting thumbs up from fans.
OM was originally scheduled to release on October 16, a day after Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 arrived in cinemas on October 15. Dhanush later announced that his film would be postponed, mentioning his respect for the veteran superstar and his decision to avoid releasing the two films on consecutive days. In his announcement on X, Dhanush acknowledged the challenges involved in shifting a film's release but said the team had decided to move OM to a later date. He also confirmed that the film would not target the Diwali release window, which already included Suriya's Scene.
