In 2023, Sunny Deol and Anil Sharma created history with Gadar 2, which grossed over Rs 500 crore and became one of the biggest blockbusters in Indian
cinema. Since then, there have been numerous reports and speculations about the duo’s next collaboration. In a past interview, Anil Sharma confirmed that Gadar 3 is in the works, with writers developing ideas to expand the franchise into a trilogy.
New story set against the coal mafia
Pinkvilla has exclusively learned that Anil Sharma recently met Sunny Deol to discuss a new larger-than-life action drama titled Coal King. A source revealed, “Anil Sharma and Sunny Deol have been discussing multiple original ideas over the last two years, and the one that excites both of them right now is a grand drama set against the backdrop of the coal mafia. The film is titled Coal King and will feature Sunny Deol in a never-before-seen avatar. The script has been completed, and they are currently working on the dialogue draft.”
The source further added that these discussions are still in the early stages and will take time before the project materializes. “Besides Coal King, Anil Sharma is also developing Gadar 3 as a large-scale period action film. A final decision on his next immediate project is expected by the end of this year, but all three scripts are being worked on simultaneously,” the source noted.

Sunny Deol’s packed upcoming schedule
Sunny Deol is currently juggling multiple projects. He is set to begin shooting a Netflix original action film with Sidharth P Malhotra, followed by a high-octane thriller produced by Excel Entertainment. Additionally, he will portray Lord Hanuman in Ramayana, with filming expected to resume toward the end of 2025. His upcoming release slate includes Border 2 and Lahore: 1947, both scheduled for next year. The Coal King project is likely to move forward in 2026.
