What is the story about?
The rumours of Alia Bhatt joining Prabhas' Kalki 2898 AD sequel have once again gone rife. Earlier, there were rumours that she was replacing Deepika Padukone
as Sumathi in the second part. But fresh reports suggest that Alia could be playing a new character altogether in the Nag Ashwin film. However, there is no official announcement by the makers about who will come in Deepika's place, which means that fans continue to speculate.
Is Alia Bhatt Part Of Kalki 2898 AD Sequel?
Fresh reports say that Alia Bhatt has been given a big role in the Kalki 2898 AD sequel. According to the latest buzz, her character is not connected to Sumathi, the role Deepika Padukone played in the first film.
As reported by India Today, Alia is speculated to be playing Goddess Vaishno Devi in the sequel. As one of the divine chiranjeevis (immortal) of Kalyuga, she will be protecting Sumathi and her unborn child. While this does sound interesting since it means there will be two leading ladies in the sequel, Alia and the one who will be replacing Deepika. Nonetheless, nothing is confirmed as of now.
What Nag Ashwin Said About Rumours
Director Nag Ashwin recently spoke about all the speculation around the role of Sumathi in the sequel. He did not confirm or deny Alia Bhatt's name but said that an official announcement is due. Several reports had also named Sai Pallavi as DP's replacement.
Speaking to Great Andhra, Nag Ashwin said, "We need to announce who plays the Sumathi character in Kalki 2. As of now, everything is speculation only. The character will be there for sure, which we can't remove as it's a very important character."
Well, fans will have to wait for an official announcement from the makers to know more.
Why Deepika Padukone Was Dropped From The Second Part
Deepika Padukone's exit from the Kalki 2898 AD sequel shocked many fans. The makers officially confirmed her departure, even though she had already shot nearly 20 days for the sequel while working on the first film.
Reports say the real reason behind her exit was a money dispute and a demand for fixed working hours. Deepika is said to have asked for a hike after the success of the first part. She had demanded eight-hour shifts. This did not go down well with the makers and the two sides parted ways. The official statement said the film 'deserves commitment and much more'.
