What is the story about?
After a public war of words between Baba Ramdev and actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, the Yoga guru has sought to bury the hatchet and appealed for reconciliation
on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Extending an olive branch, Ramdev said he would send a Rakhi, sweets and a gift to Kangana by post, calling her his "sister". He claimed to call her personally on the festival that celebrates the bond between a brother and sister. Soon after, Kangana replied with a positive note through Instagram, apparently ending the days of feud.
About Kangana Ranaut and Baba Ramdev's fight
The row erupted after Kangana Ranaut made the controversial "Generation Gutter" comment while reacting to the recent student protesters at Jantar Mantar. Her statement gave way to widespread criticism from various sections of public life, and even the entertainment industry. Baba Ramdev had also publicly objected to Kangana's remarks, leading to a direct exchange between the two.
Later, Kangana took a dig at Ramdev in an Instagram post, making pointed remarks about his statements and questioning his credibility. She also mentioned controversies in the past over claims related to his brand Patanjali and medical ads.
The two have now decided to end the feud. The latest Raksha Bandhan gesture seems to be an effort by both sides to move past the dispute.
Baba Ramdev sought to reconcile
On Friday, August 27, Baba Ramdev addressed the media, urging an end to hatred and hostility in society. He said, "There should not be any hatred in the country for any reason and there should not be any animosity toward each other." The Yoga exponent added that disputes should be resolved through talks. He said he has decided to put his and Kangana's differences aside and move ahead with affection and mutual respect.
Ramdev also conveyed a message for social harmony and called for an end to discrimination based on caste or community and said the festival represents love and mutual protection. He also suggested that political parties, including those in power and the Opposition, could symbolically exchange rakhis to send a message of unity.
Kangana accepted Baba Ramdev's gesture
Kangana Ranaut lauded Ramdev's message and agreed with his view that dialogue was better than confrontation. She reposted Ramdev's video and wrote a note where she said that she accepted both the sweets and the affection of her "elder brother" Baba Ramdev, wishing him a long life.
Kangana's post read: "Tyohar ka din hota he sab bhool chook maaf karne keliye hai, mere Bhai Baba Ram Dev ji ne bahut achcha kaha ki vivaad nahi samvaad hona chahiye. Aaj Rakshabandhan ke din main unki mithai our bade bhai ka prem dono swikaar karti hoon. Bahut dhanyawad ishwar aapko lambi aayu de (A festival is meant to forgive and forget. My brother Baba Ramdev is correct in saying that a conversation is necessary. On Raksha Bandhan today, I accept his sweets and love with all my love. Thank you so much. May God bless you with a long life.)"
