In an interview with a Tamil media channel Wow Tamizhaa, Selvam shared that he began his career as a room attendant at a hotel where many film personalities stayed. Hoping to enter the cinema industry, he approached several people for opportunities. Eventually, he joined the production unit of filmmaker SA Chandrasekhar, Vijay’s father, and worked on more than 60 films with him.
Through this association, Selvam later became part of Vijay’s team. His responsibilities reportedly included assisting the actor during shoots and taking care of his meals and refreshments on set. Over time, he claimed that internal team politics and workplace tensions made his position difficult.
Selvam recalled several incidents from film sets that he believes affected his career. During the s hooting of Thuppakki, he alleged that some crew members damaged an umbrella meant to shield Vijay from the heat, which created tension. He claimed Vijay later intervened and asked others not to trouble him. Another incident allegedly occurred when Vijay found a strand of hair in his food during a shoot, which upset the actor. Selvam maintained that the situation was misunderstood.
He also spoke about events during the filming of Puli. According to him, a personal misunderstanding on set led to Vijay slapping him late at night, however, he soon claimed the actor apologized the following morning. Selvam described the moment as deeply upsetting but said he continued working with the team afterward.
During Bairavaa, another incident involving food reportedly created problems. Selvam suggested that certain issues were deliberately staged to damage his reputation, though he did not provide proof. Following this, Vijay asked him to go home, and work only for film's productions. Despite these challenges, he continued to be associated with Vijay’s later projects, including Leo and The Greatest of All Time.

According to Selvam, the turning point came during the shoot of The Greatest of All Time, when he suffered a stroke. Due to health complications, he took a break from work. He claimed that after this period, he did not receive financial assistance and was no longer retained in Vijay’s team.Selvam stated that his medical condition has made it difficult for him to continue working regularly in films. He expressed disappointment, saying he had expected financial support after years of service. At the same time, he described Vijay as a soft-hearted person and said he does not fully understand why he was not allowed to meet him in recent times.
