What is the story about?
BTS has found a huge support in Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum. The leader publicly praised and supported the K-pop band's upcoming concerts in Mexico City
while calling it a "historic request from Mexican youth." In what is being seen as a major cultural milestone for Mexico, BTS performing in the country is set to up its position in the world map. This comes as OT7: Jin, J-Hope, Suga, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook gear up to make their big comeback as a full group with the new album ARIRANG on March 20, followed by an extensive world tour that'll cover 34 cities, 79 concerts across 5 continents, running through 2026-2027.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum backs BTS return
Claudia Sheinbaum recently mentioned BTS' upcoming shows in Mexico City, during a press briefing on January 19. She welcomed the Korean music icons in her country, stating how it was a fulfillment of the dream of thousands of fans across the country, while acknowledging the cultural impact of global K-pop music. Sheinbaum also emphasised BTS' return to the stage after its members completed their mandatory military service last year.
"How great that they’re coming!" Sheinbaum said. "It is truly fortunate that BTS will hold a concert in Mexico because it was a historic request from Mexican youth," she added.
Mexican BTS ARMY demand fairness in ticketing arrangements
It comes after BTS ARMYs in Mexico called for transparency in the ticket sales for the three concerts the group is scheduled to hold on May 7, 9 and 10, 2026 at Estadio GNP Seguros Stadium. Fans expressed frustration on social media and, along with a peaceful march in Mexico City under the slogan "Sin mapa y precios, no compramos" (No map or prices, no buy), with regard to concerns over fairness.
Mexico officials' guidelines
The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) had reportedly received more than 4,700 formal complaints demanding clear information about ticket prices, seating maps, fees, and sales conditions before presales begin. Thus, the agency sought honesty by strongly urging Ticketmaster Mexico and promoter OCESA to disclose full pricing structures, seating layouts, and whether dynamic pricing would be used. It stated that consumers have a right to complete information prior to purchase. Profeco also sought details on how tickets would be allocated to different sale phases (fan presale, general sale) and called for protections on buyer data.
This comes days ahead of the scheduled ARMY Membership presale.
