After reports suggested that income tax officials had raided actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra's Mumbai home regarding a Rs 60 crore fraud case, the actress denied
the claims of a raid. A strongly worded statement put out by her lawyer revealed that officials were conducting routine verifications. Besides the ongoing fraud case, the actress's Bengaluru restaurant, Bastian, was also under scrutiny as the police registered an FIR against it for reportedly operating beyond the closing time.
No income tax raids at Shilpa Shetty's home, says advocate
Actress Shilpa Shetty cleared the air about any rumoured income tax raids. The statement from her advocate, Prashant Patil, stated, "On behalf of my client Mrs Shilpa Shetty Kundra I can confirm that there is no income tax 'raid' of whatsoever nature against my client. There is a routine verification by the income tax officials pertaining to follow up with my client Mrs Shilpa Shetty Kundra. Whomsoever has mischievously claimed in public domain that these developments have anything to do with the alleged Economic Offence Wing case shall face legal consequences before the appropriate court of law."
The statement added, "At the cost of repetition, my client Mrs Shilpa Shetty Kundra states that there is no income tax 'RAID' at her place." Earlier this year, Shilpa Shetty and her husband, Raj Kundra, were booked by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for allegedly cheating a businessman from Mumbai of Rs 60.4 crore for a loan-cum-investment deal. The businessman, Deepak Kothari, had accused the couple of conspiring to cheat him of more than 60 crores. He stated that the money was given for a business expansion between 2015 and 2023 and was instead used for personal expenses.

The actress also broke her silence over the matter recently as she stated she had been unfairly named in the fraud case and had a limited role in the business proceedings. Shilpa stressed that she was "deeply saddened" by the allegations and the ongoing rumours were a "baseless attempt" to continue to associate her with the allegations.
