Alia Bhatt has come on board Tumbbad 2 alongside Sohum Shah and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The makers announced the big news on July 14, leaving the fans of
the Alpha star excited. Sohum, the man behind the first iteration of the supernatural-horror franchise, took to his social media handles and shared the massive casting update. The news was also reposted by Alia, who is currently fresh from the release of her recent actioner Alpha, the first female-led movie in YRF Spy Universe. Alia joining Tumbbad 2 puts an end to weeks of speculation surrounding her involvement in the much-awaited sequel.

Sohum took to his Instagram handle and shared a series of photographs with the actress against the film's signature red backdrop. The photos also include the demonic doll, a red circle and a lantern, all signature props from Tumbbad. In the caption, Sohum wrote, "A new chapter unfolds. Welcome to #Tumbbad2, @aliaabhatt #PralayAayega. See you at the cinema. 03.12.2027"
Tumbbad's legacy and success
Tumbbad was produced by Sohum Shah, who also starred in the lead role. The 2018 film remains one of India's most iconic period folk cosmic horror films. The Rahi Anil Barve directorial followed the story of Sohum's lead role as Vinayak Rao, and his search for a hidden 20th-century treasure in the Indian village of Tumbbad, Maharashtra.
The movie is remembered for its haunting setting, striking cinematography, and the use of horror elements. The movie's core theme of human greed made it different for its time. Set in a rain-soaked Maharashtrian village, the story centres on the Rao family, who build a forbidden shrine to Hastar—a cursed, mythological demon-god of wealth. Driven by generations of obsession, the protagonist Vinayak risks his life stealing infinite gold coins from Hastar until his greed consumes him.

Sohum Shah is headlining Tumbbad 2 as well, which is being bankrolled under his banner, Sohum Shah Films. Nawazuddin Siddiqui will also be seen in a key role in the film.
