to be given CPR. The singer was part of the delegation at the Northeast Festival in Singapore.
Zubeen Garg dies at 52
Assam cabinet minister Ashok Singhal reacted to the tragic news via his X account. He wrote, "Deeply saddened by the untimely demise of our beloved Zubeen Garg. Assam has lost not just a voice, but a heartbeat. Zubeen da was more than a singer, he was the pride of Assam and the nation, whose songs carried our culture, our emotions, and our spirit to every corner of the world."
He called Zubeen Assam's son and added, "In his music, generations found joy, solace, and identity. His passing leaves behind a void that can never be filled. Assam has lost its dearest son, and India has lost one of its finest cultural icons."
The Minister then sent condolences to his near and dear ones by writing, "Heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and countless fans. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire forever. Om Shanti."
Who was Zubeen Garg?
Zubeen Garg was a hugely popular Indian playback singer, composer, lyricist, and actor, best known for his work in Assamese and Hindi music. Born on 18 November 1972 in Jorhat, Assam, he became one of the most celebrated cultural icons of the Northeast.
He gained nationwide recognition with the 2006 Bollywood hit song Ya Ali from the film Gangster, which topped charts across India and abroad. Apart from Bollywood, he was a powerhouse in the Assamese and Bengali music industry, with thousands of songs across genres - modern Assamese, folk, devotional, and Bihu.
