What is the story about?
The Drishyam franchise is incomplete without Tabu. In the Hindi version of the popular series, she plays the role of Meera Deshmukh, who suspects Vijay
Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn) and his family’s involvement in her son, Sam’s mysterious disappearance and death. The sequel, released in 2022, ended with Meera and her husband Mahesh, immersing Sam’s ash. But, according to director and producer Abhishek Pathak, there is more to Tabu’s character. In an exclusive interview with Zoom, he hinted at her return to Drishyam 3, which is currently in production.
Is Tabu coming back to the Drishyam franchise?
Talking to Zoom, Abhishek teased Tabu’s comeback with a different perspective on Drishyam 3’s story. He said that though the audience thinks Meera’s track ended with Sam’s ashes being immersed, there’s still a lot to be explored. “That’s what everyone thinks (that Meera’s track has concluded). The moment you think Drishyam is getting over, you have just not looked closely. There is a lot to tell now,” Pathak shared.
Cast of Drishyam 3
Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav are returning with Drishyam 3. Abhishek has written the script along with Aamil Keeyan Khan and Parveez Shaikh. Alok Jain, Ajit Andhare, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Pathak are producing the film.
All you need to know about the Drishyam franchise
The Drishyam franchise began in 2015. It was the official remake of Jeethu Joseph’s Malayalam film of the same name starring Mohanlal. Directed by the late Nishikant Kamat, Drishyam introduced the audience to Vijay Salgaonkar, a Goa-based cable TV operator. His elder daughter, Anju (Ishita), is harassed by the son of IG Meera Deshmukh (Tabu) during a school trip. He threatens her with a private video. During an altercation, Anju and her mother, Nandini (Shriya), hit him in a way that he dies immediately. When Vijay learns about this, he uses his cinema knowledge and intelligence to protect his family.
In the sequel, Anju is a PTSD patient, and the Salgaonkars aren’t free from the case. Meera, who is no longer the IG, seeks help from Tarun Ahlawat, the current investigating officer, to expose Vijay and his family. He once again uses his smartness to navigate through the interrogation that harms his loved ones. Eventually, Vijay hands over Sam’s remains to his parents, but anonymously.
Drishyam 3 release date
While the Hindi version of Drishyam 3 releases on October 2, the Malayalam movie arrives in theatres on May 21. Abhishek is backing the Mollywood crime thriller, as well.
