What is the story about?
Nearly two decades after its release, Jab We Met continues to hold a special place in the hearts of audiences across the country. Director Imtiaz Ali,
in a recent conversation, shared a moment surrounding the film that has since becoming a big talking point. Both Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, the lead actors of the 2007 film, have independently chosen Jab We Met as the first film they showed their respective children. Imtiaz, visibly moved by the detail, said the news made him feel genuinely nice and added that he was really glad both of them were introducing the film to their kids.
Imtiaz Ali on Jab We Met
Imtiaz, in a chat with Pinkvilla, recalled attending the censor screening of Jab We Met and described it as the only film he clearly remembers after a screening. He said he walked in after it ended, asked the board what certificate they were giving it and was told it was clean with no arguments whatsoever. The film released in October 2007 and while it did not open to massive numbers, it grew steadily into one of Hindi cinema's most revisited titles.Shahid played Aditya Kashyap, a withdrawn and heartbroken young man, while Kareena brought Geet Dhillon to life in what still is one of her most celebrated performances. The fact that both actors, now parents, chose this particular film as the first film to show their children speaks to the kind of timeless quality it has carried across nearly two decades.
Mira Rajput Is A Tamasha Fan, Not Jab We Met
Imtiaz also let slip a lighter detail during the conversation.Shahid Kapoor's wife Mira Rajput, he revealed, is not particularly a Jab We Met admirer. She is a bigger fan of Rockstar and Tamasha, both from Imtiaz's own catalogue and both starring Ranbir Kapoor.
Imtiaz shared that Mira even sang him a song when he visited their home on one occasion, and it was not from Jab We Met. It was from Rockstar, which released in 2011, features Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri with music by AR Rahman and remains among Imtiaz's most acclaimed works. Tamasha, released in 2015 with Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, had a slow start at the box office but built a devoted following over time and is now widely regarded as a cult film.
Nearly twenty years on, Jab We Met is finding a whole new audience in the children of its own cast, and that alone says everything about the kind of film it is.
