Following the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, he explored a darker and meaner anti-hero character with his second OTT film. It was titled Freddy and released on JioHotstar in 2022.

In Freddy, Kartik was seen in his first and only negative role in his illustrious career. He plays Dr. Freddy Ginwala, a socially awkward dentist. He seeks genuine love and desires to be in a serious and intimate relationship. One of his patients, named Kainaaz (Alaya F), makes him feel at ease. She claims to be in an abusive relationship with her husband. As Kainaaz and Freddy grow closer, she cajoles him into murdering her husband. Throwing him out of home and life. Kainaaz wants to live a happy life with her real boyfriend.
About Freddy
Freddy, directed by Shashanka Ghosh, was produced by Jay Shewakramani, Shreyans Hirawat, Narendra Hirawat, Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, Gaurav Bose, and Lubna Khan. Skipping a theatrical release, the film premiered on JioHotstar, formerly Disney Hotstar. Reports claimed that Freddy is the Hindi remake of the iconic Dexter. However, the makers denied it, revealing it is not based on any previously made project.
In a previous statement, Kartik spoke about Freddy and said, “I feel fortunate to be a part of Freddy, the story of the film is something that I haven’t explored before. It has allowed me to experiment with my craft and explore a new territory. I'm looking forward to the movie releasing on Disney+ Hotstar soon and hoping the audience will love this new avatar.”
Sharing stills and videos from Freddy’s set, Kartik wrote on Instagram, “Ek joke sunau - I Still Love You. Currently, Kartik is busy promoting Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri with Ananya Panday. It is a December 25 release.
