What is the story about?
Rajinikanth’s prediction about Namo Narayana becoming busy after Jailer 2 appears to be coming true. The actor has gained attention for playing Pala Kadai
Moorthy, fondly called Moorthy Anna, in the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial. Sharing screen space with Rajinikanth is a challenge for any actor, but Namo Narayana has made his presence felt with his comic timing and portrayal of the character’s fun quirks. Moorthy’s confidence, exaggerated mannerisms and often clueless approach to situations make him a memorable character. Here are the details of his personal life, which includes his link to cinema, and how he transitioned from a career in software industry to films.
Who Is Namo Narayan: Early life, Career Before Films, Climb To Fame
Namo Narayana’s journey into cinema began far from the film industry. His original name is Namo Narayana, after his grandfather.
Hailing from Madurai, he grew up in a family with no film connections. His parents worked at the post office, and he was the eldest of five siblings. Before becoming an actor, he worked in the software sector and travelled to countries including Singapore and Malaysia.
His friendship with aspiring filmmakers Samuthirakani and Sasikumar eventually changed the course of his life. The three met during his time in Chennau, Samuthirakani and Sasikumar were aspiring film directors. When Samuthirakani made his directorial debut with Nadodigal, Namo Narayana got an opportunity to appear in the film. Producer Michael Rayappan, a friend of his, entrusted him with production responsibilities. His dedication behind the scenes helped him earn a role, marking his entry into acting.
Namo Narayan's Role In Mammootty's Film
Although he secured a 10-year US visa due to work in the software field, Namo Narayana chose to take a chance on cinema rather than return to a conventional industry. His family, initially hesitant about his decision, has since become more supportive as his performances have received appreciation. Namo Narayana continued working in films directed by Samuthirakani and Sasikumar, often portraying politicians and characters in rural dramas, including stories set around Madurai. He also ventured into Malayalam cinema and shared screen space with Mammootty in Thappana. Nervous about acting alongside the veteran star, he needed five takes for a scene.
About Moorthy Anna's Role In Jailer 2
In one scene, he compares himself to Thor and refers to Muthu as his Mjölnir, the mythical hammer associated with the Marvel superhero. His dialogue delivery and confidence add to the humour, including a reference to Harry Potter. In another sequence, Moorthy makes chess moves with complete confidence despite knowing little about the game. Director Nelson Dilipkumar gives the character room to shine, helping Namo Narayana stand out in the Rajinikanth-led entertainer. Released on October 15, Jailer 2 has enjoyed a solid box-office run and emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2026 so far.
