Samantha Ruth Prabhu recently performed the sacred Kalaa Aavarana (Sri Kalpam) ceremony, a specialised ritual rooted in the Srividya tradition. Sharing pictures and details from the ceremony on Instagram, the actress opened up about how meaningful the experience was for her.
Samantha revealed that she initially knew very little about the ceremony. However, as the priest, who is a Srividya Upasaka, explained each step, she gradually understood the significance behind the rituals. “Every mantra had a purpose. Every offering had a meaning. Every step had its place,” Samantha wrote.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu explains Kalaa Aavarana (Sri Kalpam)
Sharing a detailed explanation, Samantha wrote that Kalaa Aavarana (Sri Kalpam) is a specialised ritual from the Srividya tradition. Samantha explained that it honours the 94 kalas of Devi, representing her various divine qualities through the seven chakras of the mother-to-be. Sacred water and mantras are used to ritually cleanse and energise these centres. The ceremony is intended to invoke the living presence of consciousness within the mother-to-be.
What particularly moved Samantha was the way the mother-to-be is viewed during the ceremony. She explained that the woman is honoured as Devi herself, representing the sacred creator through whom another life is taking form. According to Samantha, the ritual is a blessing for both the child growing within the mother and the woman entering a new phase of her life. “She is honoured as Devi herself, as the sacred creator through whom another life is taking form,” she shared.
Following the abhishekam, the mother-to-be is seated at the sacred centre of the Sri Chakra Yantram. Samantha explained that the Sri Chakra is made up of nine aavaranas, which represent different stages of the spiritual journey. At its centre is the bindu, a single point that symbolises the source of creation and the presence of Lalita Tripurasundari.
What Is Devi Khadgamaala
During the ceremony, the Devi Khadgamaala is recited. Samantha explained that the names of the deities and divine energies associated with the nine enclosures are chanted during the recitation.
The ritualistic movement from the outer layers towards the centre symbolically guides the mind inward while invoking protection and blessings. The chanting is also believed to create a protective field around the mother and child and offer the baby a sacred samskaara, or spiritual imprint formed through mantra, even before birth.
Reflecting on the ceremony, Samantha described the experience as incredibly powerful. She said it was especially meaningful to understand what was being invoked for both her and the baby. “I went in knowing almost nothing about the ceremony. I came away feeling deeply blessed and protected,” she wrote. The actress also expressed gratitude to Shilpa Reddy, who offered her the opportunity to experience the ceremony, along with everyone involved in creating the sacred space. Samantha concluded her note by expressing gratitude for ancient traditions, the mother she is becoming and “the little life entrusted to me.”
Meanwhile, Samantha Ruth Prabhu is set to welcome her first child with husband and filmmaker Raj Nidimoru in later this year. The couple, who tied the knot in December 2025, announced their pregnancy in June 2026 at an event celebrating the success of Samantha’s film Maa Inti Bangaaram.
