In a quest to encourage Tamil cinema, he's given his nod to the upcoming Karuppu across the state. The action drama starring Suria, and his rumoured partner, actress Trisha Krishnan, will now run additional 9 AM shows in the Tamil belt. Karuppu, which is set to release on May 14 this week, has already managed to find its ground with a lot of audience anticipation, even before its premiere. Directed by RJ Balaji, the movie has already registered steady advance bookings, hinting at a good first weekend. Vijay, who took oath as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10, did something that the team of Karuppu cannot thank him enough. The Thalapathy has granted special permission for 9 AM screenings of the film, in light of its extraordinary advance bookings. Karuppu's advance booking According to trade tracker Jerin Georgekutty, Karuppu managed to cross Rs 1.90 crore in Tamil Nadu alone within nearly 36 hours, as soon as its advance bookings window opened. Jerin's update via X (formerly Twitter) also revealed that the film's all-India real-time booking gross stood at approximately Rs 2.34 crore as of 7:49 AM on Tuesday. This propelled adding 9 AM shows too. Makers thank CM Vijay On May 12, the makers of Karuppu confirmed alongside a photograph of Vijay at work in the Chief Minister's office. They posted on X, "Special thanks to our honorable Chief Minister Thiru. Joseph Vijay for granting the special permission for the 9 AM shows of #Karuppu. #Karuppu - FDFS begins at 9 AM, from May 14." For the unversed, early morning screenings are not common in Tamil Nadu, despite being a regular timing in several Indian states. The state reportedly avoids it due to law and order concerns i the aftermath of intense fan celebrations which ended up in mob ruckus around major releases in recent times.
