Shruti Haasan is now counting the days to the release of her Tamil film, Coolie. She plays the lead in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action thriller. The actress,
besides Tamil cinema, has done big-ticket movies, including Ramaiya Vastavaiya, Salaar, among several others. Ahead of Coolie’s release, Shruti spoke to Zoom exclusively and revealed whether she is concerned about box office numbers. Calling it a ‘boy problem’, the actress looked at the impact commercial cinema has on the women in it.
Shruti Haasan on box office pressure
Shruti told Zoom, “The pressure is more on the male actors and directors, jinka Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday sab box office pe chalta hai. For women leading films, box office numbers are never those numbers. The pressure there is to break even and do better. It is not about the 2000 crore club, the next club, probably.”

'Box office is boy's problem'
She further said, “Numbers keep growing, and this is a ‘boy problem’. It is nice to work in such films and there are benefits too for being a part of these big-ticket films. It is beneficial for women who are in it. You become a part of a saleable endeavour.”
Talking about Coolie in the same interview, Shruti said, “All of Lokesh’s films have a common thread. They have action, high-octane stuff happening and underneath there’s an emotional core. That is similar in this story. There’s a line of story which he relies on in order to make that work. What’s different is that the scale is way bigger. In terms of scale, it is very different.”
