What is the story about?
Ashneer Grover, who is currently hosting Rise And Fall, is making headlines with his candid remarks about reality shows and how they are structured in India.
Known for his outspoken nature, Grover didn’t hold back while discussing the essence of reality television and why it should focus on contestants rather than just big personalities. While talking about this, he seemingly took a dig at Salman Khan!
Ashneer says contestants are more important that superstars coming over weekend
In a conversation with Showsha, Ashneer said, "Reality shows have to be about contestants. Fortunately or unfortunately, in India we have had a very big show which has had a very big superstar. And therefore, it’s become more about him than the contestants right. But the fact is, who is putting in the hours? Bhai aap to ek weekend mein aa rahe ho. Jo 24 ghante lage hain woh to contestant lage hue hain."
While Grover didn’t take any names, this could be a subtle dig at Bigg Boss 19, which has long been associated with superstar Salman Khan’s towering presence and his 'Weekend Ka Vaar'. He further stressed that the 'balance of power' in such shows must tilt back to those living inside the house and creating real content. He elaborated, “The balance of power has to go back to contestants and the content that come out of contestants. Rather than it being hijacked by someone you know who comes over weekend."

Ashneer says no 'taboo' associated with Rise And Fall
Ashneer highlighted how Rise And Fall is breaking stereotypes about who can participate in reality television. "In this show, I think what people will find interesting is quality of contestants we have got. Kyunki koi taboo nahin hai. Doosre show mein bahut saare logon ka view hai ki nahin yaar main contestant nahin ban sakta. Kyunki unke hisaab se contestant banna matlab tum ek stage of life mein ho ya tumhara middle life crisis ho gaya hai ya kuch to tumko chahiye isliye tum aa rahe ho."
Calling this the biggest difference, Grover added, "We have a clean slate right. We have absolutely clean slate and therefore we are able to attract very, very good contestants and I think that’s going to be the differentiator."
Rise And Fall, the show Grover is hosting, has already gained traction for its unique format. It brings together 16 competitors in a divided mansion, where some assume temporary ruler positions while others struggle to climb the hierarchy. With frequent twists and shifts in power, the competition promises unpredictability and raw drama.
