Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is nearing its theatrical release, and the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial has now completed its censorship process. The sequel to the 2023
blockbuster Jailer has been certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), with its runtime also revealed. The latest update comes after Sun Pictures unveiled the film’s trailer, which offered a glimpse into Rajinikanth’s return as the iconic “Tiger” Muthuvel Pandian. With the film set to arrive in theatres on October 15, fans are waiting for new updates from the team. Here’s everything you need to know about the film.
Jailer 2 Gets UA 16+ Certificate, Runtime Revealed
Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and backed by Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures, has completed the censor certification process ahead of its October 15 theatrical release. According to the certification details listed by the CBFC, the Rajinikanth-starrer has been given a UA 16+ certificate. The film has a certified runtime of 165 minutes and 18 seconds, which translates to approximately two hours and 45 minutes.
The certification comes shortly after the makers released the much-awaited trailer, giving fans a closer look at the world of the sequel and Rajinikanth’s return as Muthuvel Pandian. Earlier reports about the film getting A certificate had circulated online, although Rajinikanth’s publicist had reportedly dismissed the claims as speculation.
The sequel is expected to expand the world established by Jailer, which became one of the biggest Tamil blockbusters of 2023. Nelson returns as director, with several members of the original cast and technical team also reprising their roles.
Jailer 2 Cast, IMAX Release And More
Rajinikanth plays the lead, in the film which also includes Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, Vinayakan and Jaffer Sadiq. The trailer has also confirmed the return of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and Kannada star Shivarajkumar, who appeared in cameo roles in the first film. The sequel introduces several new faces to the franchise, including SJ Suryah, Apeksha Porwal, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Mithun Chakraborty, Vijay Sethupathi, Vidya Balan, Anna Rajan, Hakkim Shaja, Bagavathi Perumal, Meghana Raj, Shamna Kasim and Jatin Sarna.
Jailer 2 will also receive a wide IMAX release, making it the first Rajinikanth film to have a major theatrical release in the premium format.
The technical team includes composer Anirudh Ravichander, cinematographer Vijay Karthik Kannan, editor R Nirmal, art director DRK Kiran and costume designers Pallavi Singh and Muthul Hafeez. Stunt director Chethan D'Souza joins the sequel. The makers also hosting a special Jailer 2 Super Show, which is scheduled to stream on Sun NXT from October 9.
