What is the story about?
With less than two and a half months to go for Avengers: Doomsday, directors Joe and Anthony Russo have teased the appearance of more characters. The brothers
and directing duo revealed unannounced characters could show up in the film, including an original Avenger that fans recently saw in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The superhero film began without a completed script, and 31 characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) have already been confirmed. Russo Brothers tease more secret characters in Avengers: Doomsday
In recent interviews, Anthony Russo seemed to confirm the return of Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner, aka The Hulk in Doomsday. He told Empire Online, "[Bruce Banner] is certainly involved in the story that revolves around Doom. We will not confirm nor deny his appearance in Doomsday.”
He also went on to say that "there are characters and actors who have not been announced, who are a part of Doomsday." The director also shared that Doomsday started filming without a finished script. Anthony added, "We’re improvisation-based, rehearsal-based directors. We like to see what the actors bring to the characters, and sometimes you don’t get the actors until a few days or a few weeks before you shoot them. And a lot of the time, that’s when the magic happens."
The previous Avengers film, Endgame (2019), has been re-released in theatres this past week. It includes four new end-credits scenes to help set up Doomsday.
Who are the 31 confirmed characters of Avengers: Doomsday?
The key characters of the MCU who are key in this final battle include Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Sam Wilson, the new Captain America (Anthony Mackie), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejía), and Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez). Additionally, Robert Downey Jr is returning as Doctor Doom and the characters of Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) and Namora (Mabel Cadena) were also confirmed.
The main gang from Marvel's last two films will also return, including the Fantastic Four with Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). The New Avengers from Thunderbolts* with Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Sentry (Lewis Pullman) will also play key parts.
The final confirmed characters for Doomsday include the X-Men from the Fox films with Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), Cyclops (James Marsden), Beast (Kelsey Grammer), Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming), Mystique (Rebecca Romijn) and Gambit (Channing Tatum).
