Several South Indian Celebrities are expressing their support for Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) as protests continues to grow. Several actors, filmmakers
are voicing concern over the handling of demonstrations in New Delhi. A day after clashes between protesters and police at Jantar Mantar, a number of public figures urged the authorities to engage in dialogue while expressing solidarity with students and activist Sonam Wangchuk. Many of them also called for peaceful protests, accountability and the protection of democratic freedoms. Their statements come after several demanded justice over alleged exam irregularities and education reforms.
Aditi Rao Hydari And Revathy React to Delhi CJP Protest
Actor Aditi Rao Hydari joined the growing list of film personalities speaking out in support of students participating in the protests led by activist Sonam Wangchuk and the CJP movement. Taking to Instagram, she avoided taking a political statement and instead appealed for compassion and dialogue. "Whatever anyone's political preferences may be, humanity must come above all." She further wrote, "We must ensure a safe environment built on respect, dignity, and empathy for all our brave students, and for all the determined voices seeking to be heard, with a genuine commitment to constructive dialogue."
Calling for greater understanding, she added, "Meaningful progress starts with listening to one another. Our students are our future."
Veteran actor Revathy also reacted to the protests with a strongly written social media post. She criticised the use of force against demonstrators, and compared it with the violence witnessed during India's freedom struggle. Mentioning that peaceful protest is a legitimate way to express opinion, She posted "PROTEST is a way to voice out dissent - it was peaceful !!! What ever the demands, it should be HEARD and DISCUSSED… not SILENCED with violence… The CHILDREN are voicing out their concern - HEAR them, TALK to them… not BEAT them… with SONAM WANGCHUK and THE STUDENTS of our country".
Siddharth, Prakash Raj and Pa Ranjith extend solidarity
Earlier, Prakash Raj also reached Jantar Mantar to support the youth-led protest. Sharing a video from the site, he wrote, "Youth of our country are #justasking." 3 BHK actor Siddharth also shared his support for students. He posted a quote by Mark Twain, with the message "Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the resistance to fear, and the mastery of fear."
Filmmaker Pa Ranjith also voiced his support on X, writing, "In solidarity with #SonamWangchuk, the #CockroachJantaParty and every protester at #JantarMantar." He further added, "Condemnation against the state's intervention in the peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar. The use of force against protesters, the detention of those standing in solidarity, and the decision to move innovator and activist Sonam Wangchuk to a hospital during his 21-day hunger strike are deeply disturbing."
According to reports clashes broke out after protesters allegedly attempted to breach barricades, leading to reported use of use lathi charges and tear gas. More than 50 personnel and over 50 protesters were reportedly injured.
