Another Spider-Man movie starring Tobey Maguire? Turns out that is a dream Mattson Tomlin, co-writer of The Batman: Part II, is quietly nurturing. The screenwriter
recently sparked fresh excitement among fans after sharing his interest in penning a new installment featuring Maguire’s Peter Parker, years after Sam Raimi’s beloved trilogy redefined superhero cinema in the 2000s. As per reports, the idea first surfaced in July, when a fan on X (formerly Twitter) asked Tomlin if he’d ever consider writing a Spider-Man film and what his take on the character might be. Tomlin’s response immediately sent nostalgic fans spinning a web of speculation. “Honestly, right now my main interest in this respect would be to write a Spider-Man 4 where Tobey’s Spider-Man is juggling being a husband and a father,” he wrote. “Spider-Man as a father is where I gravitate towards given the last eight films.” That one single tweet ignited the hopes of countless fans still loyal to Raimi’s iteration - the one that introduced Maguire’s earnest, heartfelt Peter Parker to the world. Then, over the past weekend, another fan followed up, asking whether there had been “any movement” on the possible project. Tomlin’s reply was tantalizingly vague yet optimistic. Spidey’s Future, Across the Multiverse
While fans wait to see if Tomlin’s dream project gains traction, both Sony and Marvel have their own webs to spin. Tom Holland will next return as the MCU’s Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, currently scheduled for release on July 31, 2026. Little is known about the film, but Holland teased in April 2025 that it would be a “fresh start” for his version of Peter Parker, hinting at a new phase in his story after the events of No Way Home.
Meanwhile, Tomlin’s other superhero project, The Batman: Part II, is set for an October 2027 release, with Robert Pattinson reprising his role as Gotham’s brooding protector.
So, while the idea of Spider-Man 4 remains in the realm of hopeful tweets and fan dreams, the door isn’t closed — and in superhero storytelling, that’s all it takes for imagination to take flight.
