Mrunal Thakur has never shied away from putting her views across. The actress, who made tough choices and let go of blockbusters to pave her path in the
industry, revealed in one of her recent interviews that she chose not to do a big-ticket film that eventually benefited the female lead. The interview has resurfaced, leading netizens to guess who Mrunal was talking about.
Mrunal Thakur reveals declining blockbuster films
In an interview with Miss Malini, Mrunal said she declined many big films that went on to become commercial successes. “I said no, honestly, because I was not ready. Controversies hojayegi. It became a super hit and did help the female actress to reach there. But, then I realised if I would have done that film at that point of time I would have lost myself,” she said.
Mrunal added, “Then she is not working at the moment, but I am, is itself a victory because I don't want instant gratification, instant recognition, instant fame because anything that comes instantly goes away instantly.”

Netizens react
Netizens speculated that Mrunal was talking about Anushka Sharma, who has been on a break since 2018. She was the first choice for Salman Khan’s Sultan, which eventually went to Anushka. One person wrote on Reddit, “Might be sultan ek baar bhai ne bigg boss pe bataya tha aur anushka sharma filmein bhi nahi kar rahi but anushka stepped back herself , she was getting enough offers.”
Another person added, “Sultan. But honestly I'm glad that Anushka is taking her break to look after her family, she might find gratification in that, but honestly what is with the mean girl vibe?”
A netizen commented, “if she's referring to Anushka Sharma doing Sultan which she apparently rejected, then I don't think she can even compete with the work Anushka had done..Sultan worked also because of the chemistry between Salman and Anushka.”
Mrunal Thakur-Bipasha Basu controversy
In August, a video of Mrunal from the set of Kumkum Bhagya went viral. She said, "Do you want to marry a girl who is manly with muscles? Go marry Bipasha. Listen, I am far better than Bipasha, ok." Reacting to the resurfaced video, the actress penned a note on Instagram that read, “19-year-old me as a teenager said many silly things. I didn't always understand the weight of my voice or how much words, even in jest, could hurt. But it did and for that I am deeply sorry. My intent was never to body-shame anyone. It was playful banter in an interview, that went too far. But I understand how it came across, and I truly wish I had chosen my words differently. With time, I've grown to appreciate that beauty comes in every form, and that's something I truly value now.”
