Fans and well-wishers of the veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle were shocked to hear that she had been admitted to a hospital. Early reports revealed
that Asha ji had suffered a cardiac arrest and the 92-year-old had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai. Afterwards, the singer's granddaughter Zanai Bhosle posted an update on social media and assured fans that her treatment was "ongoing." Zanai also requested everyone to value the family's privacy during this trying time and shared that more updates would be forthcoming about the Guinness Book of World Records holder.
Zanai Bhosle shares health update on grandmother Asha
On X (formerly Twitter), Zanai, who is also an aspiring singer, wrote that her grandmother was admitted to hospital "due to extreme exhaustion and suffering a chest infection." Requesting privacy for the family, she added, "Treatment is ongoing and hopefully everything will be well and we shall update you positively." On Instagram, Zanai shared a photo of the duo together as fans wished the Dadasaheb Phalke Award honoree a speedy recovery.
Asha ji is the daughter of Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar. She and her elder sister, the late Lata Mangeshkar, began singing for films at a young age. Her other siblings, sisters Meena and Usha and younger brother Hridaynath, also followed them into the music industry. Zanai is the daughter of her son Anand Bhosle from her first marriage to Ganpatrao Bhosle, who used to be her personal secretary. She has two other children, a son Hemant and a daughter, Varsha, who died in 2012. In 1980, Asha ji married music composer Rahul Dev Burman, fondly known as RD.

In her storied career lasting nearly eight decades and singing in most of the major Indian languages, Asha Bhosle picked up two National Film Awards and nine Filmfare Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award. She had a record seven Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer and even garnered two Grammy nominations in 1997 and 2006.
Asha ji received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000, after her sister Lata was honoured with it in 1989, becoming one of the few sibling pairs to be bestowed with cinema's highest honour. In 2008, the government of India honoured her with the Padma Vibhushan and in 2011, she was named the most recorded artist in music history by The Guinness Book of World Records.
