about the heartfelt reason behind accepting Chak De! India, revealing how his deep-rooted love for hockey and his late father inspired his decision.
A Tribute to His Father and His Love for Hockey
At a recent event on his birthday, SRK shared the emotional story behind the film, said, “This sport is very important to me, main khelta tha ye sport, my father used to play and I really wanted to be a hockey player and try and play for India but then I got into acting. When this film came to me, it's a tribute to my own father. I don't like to give films more meaning than they should have, ye entertainment ke liye hain (this is for entertainment), and I remember I told Adi, yeh picture main isliye karunga kyunki I want to do it for my father because he told me I can play a bit of hockey.”
(Translation: I used to play this sport, my father also played, and I really wanted to play for India. This film is a tribute to my father. I told Adi, I’ll do this movie because my father believed I could play hockey.)

SRK also recalled his experience filming with the talented cast, “Everyone was impressed, the girls were very good, the girls were fantastic. It was very good to play hockey with them and then I played football with the Australian team girls, but they were so strong, they beat us 7-0. They were fantastically strong ladies. For me, it's a very special film and we didn’t expect it to become such a big hit. Hume laga ye sports ki film hain, little different, little offbeat but it became such a defining sports film.”
