Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have unveiled the final trailer and a look at Tom Holland in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, offering fans a major
glimpse at Peter Parker's next adventure before the film hits theatres on July 31 (July 30 in India). The new footage revisits Spidey's emotional journey in the previous instalments under the MCU umbrella, while also introducing new action sequences, new enemies, and the mounting burden of protecting New York City without anyone remembering who he really is. The clip also shows additional scenes featuring other cast members, including Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner/Hulk, Zendaya's MJ, and Jacob Batalon's Ned.
Peter Parker's journey reboots after the world forgets him
Just a day after dropping its massive Avengers: Doomsday first look trailer, and with just weeks to go before its release, the trailer of Spider-Man: Brand New Day kicks off by reminding audiences of Peter's journey since Spider-Man: Homecoming, right through to the heartbreaking ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where the world, and even his closest friends, forgot he existed. Peter is now living alone, devoting his life to his alter ego, Spider-Man, and is completely dedicated to protecting the city. But the trailer hints that the emotional baggage of isolation is starting to take its toll.
The film's official synopsis states that Peter's growing pressure leads to an unexpected transformation, and a mysterious new threat looms to endanger New York.
New footage of battle with Hulk
The trailer shows a lot of recap of Peter's previous adventures, but Marvel also threw in a few brand new scenes. And one of the biggest additions is a closer look at Mark Ruffalo's Hulk, who is seen in full rage mode in a fight with Spider-Man.
The trailer also features Peter battling members of the criminal organisation, The Hand, with the young hero keeping his trademark humour intact even in the midst of intense combat when he jokes about whether his opponents could attack one at a time.
These sequences promise a balance between emotional storytelling and superhero action on a grand scale, reminding us of the tone and humour of the franchise.
Villain mystery persists
Even with new footage, Marvel still holds back on many of the movie's biggest surprises. The identity of the film's main antagonist continues to remain a mystery, with promotional material only referring to an unseen and powerful threat unlike anything Peter has faced so far.
One of the many important plot points that are kept close to the vest is the role of Sadie Sink's mysterious character. Director Destin Daniel Cretton previously said the secrecy around Sink's casting is for "a very real reason," leading to rampant fan speculation that she could be playing Jean Grey.
Returning cast and familiar faces
Tom Holland is back again as Peter Parker, Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned. Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colón-Zayas and Marvin Jones II also star in the film, and it also marks Sadie Sink's debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While No Way Home's events wiped the slate clean for Peter's relationships, the trailer promises emotional reunions with familiar faces, including a funny moment where Ned finds Spider-Man right in front of him.
Laying the groundwork for Marvel's future
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be Peter Parker's next solo adventure and is also expected to be an important chapter on the way to Marvel's upcoming crossover events, including Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Both Holland and Cretton have teased that the film's title only comes to full fruition in the closing moments of the story, suggesting Peter's journey toward finding his "brand new day" will define the emotional core of the movie.
