Ranveer Singh found himself in a soup after he mimicked the bit where Daiva possesses Rishabh's character in Kantara Chapter 1. The scene was part of the sacred
Chaundi sequence, dedicated to Goddess Chavundi. Now, as per NDTV, an FIR was registered against Ranveer at the High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Earlier, the actor had issued an apology, stating that his intention was to 'highlight' Rishabh Shetty's exceptional performance in the film. The incident transpired during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. Rishabh was present in the audience when Ranveer mimicked the sequence.
Ranveer Singh Lands In Legal Trouble
The formal complaint was filed on Wednesday at the High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru following a court directive. The actor has been accused of insulting Hindu religious sentiments and the Chavundi Daiva tradition of coastal Karnataka. The case was booked under Sections 196, 299 and 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The complainant, Bengaluru-based advocate Prashanth Methal, claimed that Ranveer made derogatory remarks and also performed a mocking stage act that allegedly demeaned revered elements of the Daiva tradition.
Apologising on the matter, Singh had earlier taken to Instagram and penned, "My intention was to highlight Rishabh's incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene in the way that he did, for which he has my utmost admiration. I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief in our country. If I've hurt anyone's sentiments, I sincerely apologise."
