What is the story about?
Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan is reportedly making its way back to the big screen before the release of Awarapan 2. According to a new report, the 2007 cult
classic is scheduled for a theatrical re-release on July 31, 2026, roughly two weeks before the sequel arrives in cinemas. The move is said to capitalise on the film's enduring popularity, emotional storytelling, memorable performances, and evergreen soundtrack, while also building excitement for the sequel. If the reported release date holds, Awarapan will clash with Tom Holland and Zendaya's Spider-Man: Brand New Day at the box office.
Awarapan to re-release in theatres
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Awarapan is expected to return to cinemas on July 31, 2026, giving fans a chance to revisit the film before Awarapan 2 arrives on the big screen. The re-release, if confirmed, comes nearly two decades after the original film premiered in 2007 and gradually earned cult status among audiences.
Quoting a source, the portal reported, “Awarapan will re-release on July 31. The first part continues to hold strong recall value due to the casting, subject, emotional and massy moments, and, most importantly, the timeless music score. Hence, it was decided to bring it to cinemas before the release of Awarapan 2.” This strategy reflects the growing trend of re-releasing popular films in theaters prior to the launch of their sequels; this allows long-time fans to enjoy the story anew on the big screen while simultaneously introducing the franchise to a new generation of viewers.
If the reported release date remains unchanged, Awarapan will share its theatrical window with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya. While the Marvel film is expected to dominate screens worldwide, Awarapan could still attract audiences driven by nostalgia, its acclaimed soundtrack, and Emraan Hashmi's fan following.
Unlike a conventional box office battle between two new releases, this clash would pit a beloved Bollywood re-release against one of Hollywood's biggest superhero films, making it an interesting weekend to watch at the ticket windows.
