Maa Inti Bangaaram OTT release
JioHotstar Telugu shared the official announcement of Maa Inti Bangaaram’s OTT release. The film will stream from July 17. As of now, it is known that Samantha’s film can be watched in Telugu. Details about its dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada are not revealed.
Maa Inti Bangaaram's box office records
Maa Inti Bangaaram is one of the biggest commercial successes in the history of women-led Indian cinema, with a recovery of more than 300 per cent on its budget. It also became the first female-led Telugu film to cross a century, surpassing many collection records on its way, including the highest overseas collections for a female-led film, exceeding USD 2.5 million. Maa Inti Bangaaram takes the sixth position as India's highest-grossing solo female-led films.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu recalls exhibitor's sexist remarks
On Instagram, Samantha penned a note, revealing the sexist remarks passed by an exhibitor before the film’s release. The actress recalled ‘obsessing’ over thoughts like, ‘Were people even talking about the film?’, ‘Were the assets we were putting out reaching people?’ and ‘Did they know this film existed?’
She further added, “A friend of mine called an exhibitor in a B centre. He didn’t know I was listening. My friend asked, “What do you think about Maa Inti Bangaram? How much do you think it’ll open at?” The exhibitor didn’t hesitate. “Why would anyone watch a heroine film? If she’s in a big hero’s film, fine. People know her for the glamour. But a film led by a heroine? Who will come? Nobody.”
Samantha proudly expressed that Maa Inti Bangaaram changed that perception after its release. “I think real change only happens when someone is willing to take a risk. Most of the time, those risks don’t pay off. Every once in a while, they do. For us, this one did,” she wrote.
The actress-producer signed off, hoping that this is the start of something bigger. “I hope that the next time someone calls an exhibitor in a B or C centre and asks about a female-led film, the answer isn’t an instant no. Maybe it’s, “Let’s see.” Because the truth is, we will never really know,” she wrote.
