Netflix India is about to launch its first animated mythology series. Kurukshetra, which reimagines the timeless stories of the Mahabharata, will be released
on October 10. Conceptualised and created by Anu Sikka, Kurukshetra is presented by Tipping Point production. Check out the first motion poster of the upcoming series.
Kurukshetra to premiere in October 2025
On Instagram, the first look of Kurukshetra was unveiled with the caption, "Shankhnaad ke sath arambh hoga dharm aur adharm ka mahayudh. Watch Kurukshetra, out 10 October, only on Netflix." Produced by Alok Jain, Anu Sikka, and Ajit Andhare. Kurukshetra is written and directed by Ujaan Ganguly. Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner and poet Gulzar comes on board as the official lyricist of the series.
According to a press note by Netflix, "The series unfolds through the perspectives of 18 key warriors, each navigating their inner dilemmas, personal vendettas, and the devastating cost of a war that pits brother against brother. Bringing the greatest Indian story ever told to life through the learnings of the Dharmayudh (righteous war), the show will be launched in two parts of 9 episodes each."

In a statement, creator Anu Sikka stated, “The battle of Kurukshetra is unforgettable and timeless — it is a collision of duty, destiny, and moral choices. Through this animated series, we explore the 18 days of Kurukshetra with its distinct perspectives blending eternally timeless wisdom with the power of visual storytelling. We're honoured to bring this layered narrative to life on Netflix, making this epic story accessible to Indian and global audiences in a visually stunning rich new format.”
Animated stories on the Mahabharata
Over the years, several animated films have attempted to tell the story of the Mahabharata. Films such as Krishna (2006 film), Dashavatar (2008 film), Arjun: The Warrior Prince (2012), and Mahabharat (2013 film) have been released. The two-part Netflix series is attempting to reimagine the epic saga with long-format storytelling.
